Saturday in Long Island

We had a very busy Saturday this past weekend. Tracy and I drove up to Kings Point to visit with Lucas for the day. He needed us to take some of his gear home since he will be off campus until November. We left at 4 am and got there at 7:30. Lucas had a final exam that day so we couldn't meet up with him until 11. Tracy and I explored Jones Beach that morning and we arrived at the campus just as Lucas finished his test. After a lunch we drove to Sagamore Hill, Teddy Roosevelt's home which is about 20 minutes East of the academy.

What a wonderful house! It is filled with Teddy's stuff and our tour guide did a great job explaining the history behind everything. Teddy knew how to live! The water shots are taken at his private beach behind his house.

After the house tour we drove to a theater to watch the new Batman movie, then back to Great Neck for a sushi dinner. We dropped Lucas off at 10:30 and hit the road for home. Nothing like driving through bumper to bumper traffic on the Long Island expressway at 11:30 pm going 70 mph!

Air Force trip

Here are some shots from my trip last week to Pueblo Colorado and the Air Force flight screening facility. This is where all potential new pilots for the Air Force get their first experience piloting a plane. It is a 6 week program. If you fail, you wash out and get a some other position. If you pass, you move on to learn how to fly the expensive stuff.

Got a chance to fly with a flight evaluator and he took me out over the CO desert where I couldn't hit anything if I crashed. The warm air created lots of thermals for our little plane which made for a bumpy ride. It was a blast. Now I have to create a piece of art work that will go into the air force art collection. This is a program that has been around awhile where they invite illustrators associated with the Society of Illustrators to document the various missions around the world. I was invited by fellow society member and Syracuse friend, Scott Bakal. He shot the video during his flight.

The B-29 named "Peachy" is located in the air museum next to the flight facility. Great nose art! Don't think you could do that stuff today though.

Our Week at Cape May Point

We had a wonderful time last week at our annual week with the Smith's at Cape May Point. This time Carson had her friends Avery and Emily join us and at the end of the week Aunt Barbie showed up.

The weather was great the entire week and we logged lots of time at the beach. The girls managed to make friends with the lifeguards (go figure.) Tracy and I went on a mission to find the infamous Higgbee Beach. It has a reputation as a "clothing optional" beach and we were able to confirm that. Emily was nice enough to play tennis with us old folks on Thursday and Friday mornings. Grandpa treated us to dinner at the Blue Pig Tavern Friday night. All in all it was a wonderful week!

Our 24th Anniversary Ride

Once again, we celebrated our wedding anniversary with a stay at the Jackson House B&B in Railroad, Pa. Tracy and I rode the bike path all the way to the end in Maryland for a total of 50 miles on Friday. This weekend is the Street Road Nationals East are in York, PA. Street rodders come from all over to hang out and show their stuff. There was a couple from West Virginia at the inn with their his and her hot rods. He drives the red one and she drives the beautiful black cherry one. They were really great folks and we had fun talking to them before dinner. This morning, we got up early and rode another 20 miles north and got to see a small parade of street rods rolling through the country side. Very cool!

Peaches birthday party!

Peaches had her first birthday on Monday. So, Carson used it as an excuse to get her friends together for yet another party. Peaches didn't think much of the party but loved her new toys and all of the doggie treats!

Carson's graduation

So, this was the big weekend for Carson and the class of 08. Saturday was the ceremony and reception. All the girls wear white dresses and the guys wear suits. Sunday was a lawn party for the class at her good friend Wynn's house. I didn't get too many good pictures from the ceremony. Too many people and the seating didn't give us a very good angle. Thank goodness Grandpa was there with his camera as well to help us document the day. The pics of the girls in the colored dresses were taken on Sunday at the lawn party.

Prom Pics! 2008

This past week was very busy. I had jury duty for 3 days and got serious butt fatigue. Carson had her last day of school on Friday and Saturday was the prom. Here are pics from just before the kids left. Carson and her girlfriends got ready for the dance at her friend Christine's house. Then all the moms and dads, and the boys arrived to take pictures. Lucas made it home this weekend and was their driver to the dance. The parents, grandparents and pugs hung out after they left and had a wonderful time with the Morrisons. Carson's date is Austin who goes to another high school here. She met him through the weekend art classes she has taken at our college. We think he looks like a really young Burt Bacharach!

Graduation is two weeks away. The time has gone by way too fast.
