Christmas 2008

The kids came home and we had a mini Christmas on the 23rd at our house. That way we wouldn't have to carry so much to the Cabin on the 24th. We met Don and Brenda up there. Fortunately, they had arrived the day before and had built the fires to warm an 11 degree cabin to a 70 degree, cozy lodge by the time we got there. Hurray for grandparents!!

The snow that had fallen the weekend before, was now icy but still very pretty. We took a walk around Eagles Mere Lake and a hike on Butternut trail. Both treks were necessary to counteract all of the good food we were eating. Peaches was very happy to have her new fleece coat that Santa had brought.

All in all, a wonderful way to spend the Holiday.

This morning

I took the dogs for a walk this morning and this is what we saw. It was 17 degrees but you didn't mind the cold with views like this.

Thanksgiving Day 2008

We had a wonderful day, especially since we had our two college kids back home. The weather was clear and cold. The food was great and we all ate way too much. Love the photo of Mae and Peaches, the oldest and the youngest girls at the party.

Blast from the past!

Went through some old disks in the back of the computer desk drawer and found these old photos. The blue one is my first car: a Fiat 1100d. The grey one is the car I had in college: a Mercedes 190. Ahhh....... nostalgia. Interesting how much the Fiat looks like our Honda Element.

November changes

Since the country is in the "change" mode we figured we'd better get with the program. The house painting project is finally finished so we now have a red farmhouse. That wasn't enough change for us so we traded the trusty trooper for a new Honda. The trooper was threatening to be not so trusty so we thought we'd take advantage of the worst sales in auto history to see if we'd get a good deal. I shopped around and got a great deal and we are liking our little mail truck.

Weekend in the mountains

We traveled to the cabin this past weekend to get a taste of autumn. The puppies had a blast and we did too. The air was a chilly 32 degrees each morning when we woke up but the sky was bright blue and there was still color to see.

CMU Family weekend

Here are some shots from our weekend in Pittsburgh with Carson. Nana and Grandpa came too and we all had great time catching up with one of our two favorite college students. Carson  showed us around the design studio and we got to meet some of her new friends.

We managed to find Max our neighbor from down the street who is a student at Pitt and he joined us for dinner.

Peaches and Iris at the polo match

Our friends the Morrison's invited Peaches, Iris, Tracy and I to tailgate with them at the Lancaster Polo club match yesterday. It was a beautiful day and the food and wine were scrumptious. The dogs had a blast with all the other dogs that were there and loved the off leash time between the chukkers. Peaches met a new friend, "Cyrus" a HUGE mastif.

Carson leaves for CMU

So, now we're empty nesters. It was a beautiful day to move to Pittsburgh. We managed to fit everything into our Fit. The unloading process went smoothly thanks to all the help from the upper classmen that were there to lend a hand. Carson is on the 6th floor of her dorm that has a nice view of the campus. After we unloaded we went to required meetings then did some more shopping followed by dinner along the river in Southside Pittsburgh (Carson Street!).

Peaches, Iris and Tracy and I are back at home wandering aimlessly through our empty house. Okay..... it's not that bad but it will take some time to adjust to this new lifestyle.
